BIOPAC and Innovations from Seaweed: From the Sea, For the Earth

5 years ago, BIOPAC took its first steps to help save the “sick” earth. However, long before that, 14 years earlier, the founder of BIOPAC began her inspiring journey, specifically when she received research grant from L’Oréal for Women in Science to develop bioplastics.

The ocean, which covers 71% of the Earth’s surface, contains around 96.5% of the Earth’s water. With such a vast amount, we can find millions of biodiversity that live within it sustainably. According to the USGS, only 10% of the ocean resources have been utilized. Additionally, the USGS reveals that the number of species living in the ocean has yet to be estimated. With such great biodiversity, the ocean also acts as the “heart” of the Earth, influencing the climate and weather. Therefore, maintaining the health and understanding of the ocean is one of our most important tasks.

Recognizing these facts, BIOPAC took its first step toward saving the ocean and the Earth. One of the ocean’s resources, seaweed, is being used to create innovative, eco-friendly packaging.

BIOPAC: Innovation for the Earth from the Sea

Founded in 2019, with one of its founders being a graduate of Chemistry from ITB and a doctoral degree in food science from IPB, BIOPAC’s vision is to be a pioneer in creating eco-friendly packaging. BIOPAC focuses on three core values in each of its products: user-friendly, environmentally friendly, and sustainable. Moreover, there are two important impacts they continuously bring to their journey: environmental and social impacts on coastal communities.

BIOPAC’s advantages lie in its material selection, which is easily sourced: seaweed, and the ease with which its products decompose back into the Earth. Its products can reach various industries, including hospitality, food & beverage, SMEs, and offices. Additionally, BIOPAC’s eco-friendly packaging products have the unique benefit of being edible, safe for consumption, and allergen-free.

Through these products, BIOPAC actively supports 14 pillars of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), ranging from social, environmental, to economic. The prices of its products are also affordable, as BIOPAC is committed to making them accessible to the entire society. The hope is that, in the coming years, the condition of the oceans will improve and be protected from harmful pollutants. To protect the Earth, we need to start adopting a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle, such as using BIOPAC products. Gradually and consistently, the Earth will be able to recover and provide us with comfort for life. Start now by using eco-friendly products!
