5 tahun lalu, BIOPAC mengawali langkah pertamanya untuk menyelamatkan laut yang semakin “sakit”. Namun, jauh sebelum itu, 14 tahun sebelumnya, pendiri Biopac telah memulai perjalanan inspiratifnya, tepatnya saat beliau mendapatkan dana penelitian L’Oreal for Women in Science untuk mengembangkan bioplastik.
Laut menjadi penyusun permukaan Bumi terbesar sebanyak 71% di mana terdapat sekitar 96.5% air yang dimiliki Bumi. Dengan jumlah yang tentunya tidak sedikit, kita bisa menemukan jutaan biodiversitas yang hidup di dalamnya secara berkesinambungan. Menurut USGS, hanya 10% dari keseluruhan laut di dunia yang telah dimanfaatkan. Tidak hanya itu, USGS mengungkapkan bahwa mereka masih belum bisa diperkirakan jumlah dari spesies yang hidup di dalamnya. Dengan keanekaragaman hayati yang begitu besar, laut juga menjadi “jantung” dari Bumi yang berpengaruh terhadap iklim dan cuaca. Oleh karena itu, menjaga kesehatan dan memahami laut menjadi tugas kita yang terpenting.
Menyadari fakta ini, BIOPAC mengambil langkah pertamanya dalam menyelamatkan laut dan Bumi. Salah satu sumber daya dari laut, rumput laut, mereka manfaatkan untuk membuat inovasi kemasan yang ramah lingkungan.
BIOPAC: Inovasi untuk Bumi dari Laut
Didirikan pada tahun 2019 salah satunya oleh lulusan sarjana Kimia ITB dan doktoral dalam bidang food science di IPB, BIOPAC memiliki visi untuk menjadi pionir dalam pembuatan biopackaging dan circular packaging. BIOPAC mengangkat tiga nilai penting dalam setiap produknya, yaitu user-friendly, environmentally friendly, dan sustainable. Tidak hanya itu, terdapat dua dampak penting yang terus mereka bawa ke dalam setiap perjalanannya, yaitu environmental dan social impact terhadap masyarakat pesisir.
Keunggulan BIOPAC terletak pada pemilihan bahannya yang mudah didapat, yaitu rumput laut, dan kemudahan produknya untuk terurai kembali ke Bumi. Produk-produknya juga mampu menjangkau berbagai lini industri seperti perhotelan, F&B, UMKM dan juga perkantoran. Dalam membuat produk eco-friendly packaging, BIOPAC juga memiliki keunggulan lain yaitu edible atau aman untuk dikonsumsi dan tidak menimbulkan alergi setelahnya.
Lewat produk-produk ini, BIOPAC berperan aktif dalam mendukung 14 pilar dari SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) dari mulai sosial, lingkungan, hingga ekonomi. Harga yang ditawarkan untuk setiap produknya pun terjangkau karena BIOPAC berkomitmen agar produknya bisa digunakan oleh berbagai lapisan masyarakat. Harapannya, dalam beberapa tahun ke depan, kondisi laut bisa menjadi semakin membaik dan terjaga dari polutan yang membahayakan. Untuk menjaga Bumi, kita perlu memulai gaya hidup yang sehat dan ramah lingkungan seperti memakai produk-produk dari BIOPAC.
