Helen is a PhD in Eco-cities and climate change with experience in leading 20+ project portfolio to address urbanization challenges in ASEAN cities, provide consultancies for World Bank, EU/EC Horizon 2020, and many more. I had the privilege of meeting her at the first time in 2022 when she served as Program Manager at the U.S. ASEAN Smart Cities Partnership (USASCP). With a strong background in global climate and policy work, Helen brings invaluable guidance to Biopac as we aim to scale sustainable packaging solutions across United States, Europe, and Asia. Her experience in shaping multi-sectoral partnerships aligns seamlessly with our mission to reduce plastic waste through seaweed-based innovation.

BIOPAC and North Sulawesi Disperindag Hold Technical Guidance to Increase the Competitiveness of SMEs with Sustainable Packaging

Manado, September 17, 2024 – BIOPAC collaborated with the North Sulawesi Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindag) to hold Technical Guidance (Bimtek) in North Minahasa on August 8-9, 2024.

This training helps Small and Medium Industries (SMEs) develop sustainable export strategies and introduce biodegradable packaging as an innovative solution. The goal is to increase the competitiveness of local products in the international market. This training focuses on how to increase the competitiveness of SMEs through environmentally friendly packaging. Participants gained insight into biodegradable packaging as well as international environmental standards. The training materials cover global trends in sustainable products and digital marketing strategies. BIOPAC also introduced plastic-free packaging, which provides added value in the face of international competition. SME products can be more easily accepted in the global market with this packaging.

BIOPAC and the North Sulawesi Disperindag are committed to facilitating North Sulawesi SMEs to use sustainable packaging through technical guidance. A representative of BIOPAC stated, “This collaboration aims to help SMEs adopt a circular economy.” The biodegradable packaging developed by BIOPAC is environmentally friendly and biodegradable. Products such as food packaging and single-use plastics are able to decompose quickly without leaving behind microplastic residues.

SMEs and the Circular Economy: The Future of Sustainable Products

Most of the business units in Indonesia are SMEs. Their role is important in encouraging the circular economy. The circular economy allows materials and products to be reused, reducing waste and environmental impact. Local North Sulawesi products that use biodegradable packaging can compete in the global market. BIOPAC encourages SMEs to reduce the use of single-use plastics and adopt sustainable practices.

Manado, August 22, 2024 – BIOPAC, a leading company in the provision of eco-friendly packaging products, is proud to announce a collaboration with Grand Luley Hotel.

This collaboration with Grand Luley Hotel is a strategic step taken by BIOPAC to expand the range of sustainable products and support the environmentally conscious hospitality sector in North Sulawesi.

Through the socialization carried out on July 24, 2024, the Grand Luley Hotel officially became a partner of BIOPAC in promoting the use of environmentally friendly products.

This collaboration is a clear proof of the commitment of both parties in combating plastic waste and promoting environmental sustainability.

“The Grand Luley Hotel has a vision and mission that is almost in line with BIOPAC related to environmental conservation. They are progressively looking for solutions to reduce their environmental impact, and we are happy to be part of that solution,” said a BIOPAC representative.

In this collaboration, BIOPAC will provide a variety of eco-friendly products, such as hotel amenities and plastic-free F&B products.

One of the main initiatives that will be carried out together is the Serving Good Food With BIOPAC Plastic-Free Packaging program.

Through this collaboration, BIOPAC hopes that the hospitality industry in North Sulawesi can become the main driver in increasing environmental awareness.

Because this bag is made from natural materials, it will easily be broken down by microorganisms.

In addition to reducing plastic waste, we also focus on the concept of sustainable living. That’s why we chose seaweed, as it is a renewable natural resource with an easy and fast cultivation process, and it effectively absorbs CO2 to address climate change. We also utilize seaweed to create marketable products, helping improve the economy of seaweed farmers and empower women living on the coast to enhance their potential.
